BP — Architecture, Integration & Performance
c. 2006–2014
Enterprise Architecture
As IBM's Lead Software Architect aligned to the BP global account, David held architectural oversight for the cohesion and interoperability of IBM software solutions presented across BP's upstream, downstream and trading businesses.
Data Integration & Master Data
Subsurface work included integration between Landmark/Halliburton OpenWorks and the transition toward Schlumberger Petrel/Studio using TIBCO OpenSpirit and BusinessWorks. David also led the architecture of a global well master-data solution introducing a unique identifier across well-header records, allowing cost, work-management, drilling and operational systems to correlate the same well despite differing nomenclature.
Performance & SWAT Support
During a major Landmark-to-Schlumberger transformation, David worked within an internal SWAT team reproducing production environments, isolating cross-stack issues across Oracle, networks, applications and infrastructure, validating remediation approaches and supporting implementation teams through handover.
Senior customer consulting focused on working directly with customers to design and deliver data integration solutions for geological and geotechnical applications, translating complex operational and technical requirements into practical integration architectures.
Geodatafy — Architecture & Development Leadership
Lead Architect and Development Leader for Geodatafy, providing architectural direction and technical leadership for the platform while guiding its development practice and delivery.
Engineering, Cloud & Security Leadership
Agile development practice leader, software consultant and troubleshooting expert, with leadership responsibilities spanning application, network and security architecture. David also holds responsibility for the Azure development environments, from architecture and design through deployment and operational readiness.
AI-Assisted Engineering
AI is incorporated into daily engineering and development workflows to accelerate analysis, implementation and problem solving. David's approach is deliberately governed rather than autonomous: AI-generated directions, technical recommendations and decisions are reviewed and verified by experienced engineers before adoption.

Perenco Holdings UK — Studio Readiness, Licence Analytics & Technical Support
c. 2014–2016
Studio Readiness
David was initially engaged to assess Perenco Holdings UK's technical and infrastructure readiness for the rollout of Schlumberger Studio. The work covered implementation workflows, early infrastructure deployment and performance assessment, supporting the organisation through to successful adoption.
Licence Analytics
David designed and built a real-time technical-application licence monitoring solution using BIRT. It provided visibility of utilisation across high-value applications including CMG, Petrel/Studio, OpenWorks and OpenWells, giving the business evidence to support software licence negotiations.
Technical Escalation & Oracle Support
For the final period of the engagement, David was retained as a trusted technical escalation resource for UK infrastructure issues, particularly Oracle systems — investigating faults, restoring services, patching systems and supporting remediation where specialist intervention was required.
ConocoPhillips — Geodatafy Deployment Architecture & Data Integration
c. 2014–2026
Lead Deployment Architecture
As Lead Deployment Architect for the Geodatafy rollout, David designed and supported highly resilient clustered environments capable of handling many millions of records. The deployment evolved over approximately a decade, with the number of Geodatafy instances steadily increasing across different business units.
Technical Data Ingestion
David was responsible for many of the Talend-based indexers used to connect to source systems and ingest technical data into Geodatafy, combining deployment architecture with detailed knowledge of the integration layer and source-data landscape.
From PoC to Product
Over the course of the engagement, David led the transition of proof-of-concept and R&D connectors and enhancements into supported product components, working with a wider engineering team to turn experimental integration capability into repeatable production functionality.

TotalEnergies — EPOS to OpenWorks Data Transition
c. 2012
On-site Data Transition
Working on-site at La Défense with Total's data transition team, David supported the migration of subsurface data from EPOS into Landmark OpenWorks.
OpenSpirit Integration Framework
Using TIBCO OpenSpirit as the interoperability framework, David provided installation, configuration and technical support for the integration technology underpinning the transition workflows.
Vendor Liaison & Resolution
David liaised directly with TIBCO on defects, fixes and required changes to the integration technology, helping remove technical blockers and enabling Total to successfully progress its data-transition programme.

Noble Energy — Geodatafy V1 Implementation
Now part of Chevron
Lead Consulting & Positioning
David was the lead consultant for the positioning and successful implementation of the first version of Geodatafy at Noble Energy, working with the client to establish the platform as an integration layer for subsurface technical data.
Multi-System Data Ingestion
The initial implementation integrated data from multiple technical systems including Cegal Blueback Tracker, ProSource, Landmark OpenWorks and Schlumberger Petrel, bringing information from established subsurface platforms into the Geodatafy environment.
Unstructured & Technical Data
The solution also incorporated local unstructured documents and specialist technical data formats, including seismic and well data such as SEG-Y, ZGY, LAS and DLIS.
As a software consultant for TIBCO, David implemented TIBCO OpenSpirit environments to provide data interoperability between geotechnical applications within Shell's subsurface technology landscape.
OpenWorks & Petrel Workflows
A primary focus was the implementation of workflows between Landmark OpenWorks and Schlumberger Petrel, enabling technical users and applications to exchange subsurface information across platform boundaries.
GIS Integration
David also implemented interoperability workflows involving ArcGIS SDE, extending integration beyond the core subsurface applications to spatial and GIS-managed data.
